Les Meebits en quelques mots

Meebits are a collection of 20,000 3D-voxel characters represented as NFTs which can be traded, animated and used as metaverse avatars.
Meebits were developed in 2021 by Larva Labs, creators of the immensely popular CryptoPunks collection.
The Meetbits ecosystem is continuously under development according to governance proposals raised within the MeebitsDAO.

L’apparence des 20 000 personnages de la collection de NFT Meebits s’inspire de ceux de Minecraft. Ils se divisent en sept types de base, parmi lesquels les humains, les cochons et les squelettes. Qui a créé les Meebits ?

Les Meebits ont été créés en mai 2021 par Larva Labs, l’équipe à l’origine des CryptoPunks, des Autoglyphs et d’autres projets innovants qui combinent les mondes de l’art numérique et de la technologie.

Fondé par Matt Hall et John Watkinson, Larva Labs est impliqué dans des projets crypto et non crypto depuis plusieurs années. L’équipe est surtout connue pour sa série de NFT révolutionnaire, les CryptoPunks. Depuis son lancement en 2017, elle est la plus reconnue et la plus valorisée de toutes les collections de NFT à ce jour.

Larva Labs a créé les Meebits dans le sillage de l’esthétique en pixel 2D réussie des CryptoPunks et des Autoglyphs, développant une collection en 3D voxel spécialement conçue pour les jeux émergeant sur le métavers, comme D ecentraland et The Sandbox.

En mars 2022, Yuga Labs, l’équipe à l’origine de la très populaire collection de NFT Bored Ape Yacht Club (et de ses nombreuses collections dérivées) a acquis les droits de propriété intellectuelle (PI) de CryptoPunks et Meebits auprès de l’équipe Larva Labs.

Qu’est-ce qui rend les Meebits uniques ?

Meebits draw from the pixelated, low-res graphic aesthetic popularized by games like Minecraft and Roblox. The 3D-voxel character collection is positioned to serve as an ownable avatar purpose-built for immersive virtual reality environments.

Meebits of varying type, attribute and rarity can be bought, sold and collected. The most common type, human, makes up 18,881 of the Meebits, while the rarest type, dissected, makes up only five of 20,000 Meebits. The types, in order of descending rarity, are: dissected, visitor, skeleton, robot, elephant, pig and human.

Along with these seven types, different attribute categories (tattoos, jersey numbers, earrings, necklaces, beards, etc.) make each Meebit distinct and should help prospective buyers find the right Meebit for them.

Meebit owners also receive an asset pack which includes the full 3D model, a T-pose animation OBJ file and high-resolution renders of the Meebit. Meebit owners can further customize and play with their Meebit character in various games and virtual worlds in the metaverse or even 3D print a physical model.

Meebits has its own integrated marketplace which allows reduced-fee trading on up to 100 Meebits at a time. Within the Meebits marketplace, trades can be proposed off-chain via the Meebits Trading Terminal. Fees are only incurred upon the finalization of the proposed trades, which requires an on-chain transaction (and gas fees) between the seller and buyer.

There are 20,000 unique Meebits characters, all of which are algorithmically generated and registered on Ethereum. Given the track record of past Larva Labs collections like CryptoPunks, many are interested in seeing how past successes and lessons learned from launching that collection may be used while continuing to develop the Meebits project. With double the number of tokens in this collection than in CryptoPunks, Meebits also offers more opportunities for interested buyers to join the community.
