Pi Network is a social cryptocurrency, developer platform, and ecosystem designed for widespread accessibility and real-world utility. Founded in 2019 by Stanford PhDs Dr. Nicolas Kokkalis and Dr. Chengdiao Fan, Pi Network enables users to mine Pi cryptocurrency from their mobile phones using an energy-light mining mechanism, without the need for expensive hardware or high energy consumption. The network operates its own Layer-1 blockchain using a consensus mechanism based on the Stellar Consensus Protocol (SCP), a Federated Byzantine Agreement system. Pi Network is designed to draw on the collective contributions of community members, such as their Security Circles or Pi Nodes, to grow and scale. Pi Network's ecosystem is accessible through the Pi Browser (an app on iOS and Android) and includes developer tools such as Pi SDK and the Pi App Studio for the AI-assisted creation of applications deployed to millions of Pi users. The PI token is the native cryptocurrency of the Pi Network ecosystem.
